25th year scorecard

*From audited financial reports 2001-2025.

Between 2001–2025 we picked up 8500+ youngsters with grit and talent from the remotest villages of Bengal—the daughters and sons of the marginal farmer and daily wage earner.

We disbursed 3.5 crores INR as educational scholarships for higher studies—including engineering, medical, arts and humanities.

More importantly, we guided them through their journey. Today, they are our teachers, nurses, doctors and engineers—nurturing, creating, curing our communities.

We also raised among ourselves 5 crores INR for acquiring 5200 Sq. Ft. prime land and for foundation work for the center.

It is our dream community project— about 11,500 sq. ft. of built area right in the urban metropolis.

In the coming decades it will carry on our vision of straddling social welfare in the margins, and cultural healing of the atomized individual and the fractured urban communities she inhabits.

Our work is niche, radical and radial: connecting social mobility in the rural periphery with high culture in the urban centre.

Paramparik Centre is the social infrastructure to build reflexive, empathetic communities.

As Blaise Pascal wrote: "All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone." Not with a television or a gadget, though. But art, music and literature.

Art does not reproduce what we see; rather, it makes us see.

The Highway Always Narrows The Road

—Lata Mani, The Interconnectedness of Things

The Arabic word Insān (human) is derived from the root uns (being with others). Sociolinguistically, it is the antidote to the urban, tech-infested, self-obsessed, atomized individual. Being human, then, is being interjoined with the lives of others. Having social empathy. Tagore's being in the world.

Culture is how a society explains itself to itself.... Community is the ultimate corrective of personal disorders.

—Philip Rieff, The Triumph of the Therapeutic

Anyone oblivious of our urban privileges and social capital in relation to those dying in the margins, is delusional, because the effects of technofeudalism, individualism, consumption and murderous competition will eventually ruin us all.

Culture. Creativity. Community. Care.

When a system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to lift the entire system to a higher order.

—Ilya Prigogine

Social welfare and cultural welfare, together, generate alternate, more stable meanings of existence. We need more empathetic, artful communities. Because only them, and not the state, that can save our civilization from unraveling.
